Saponaria officinalis 'Rosea Plena' - Hardy perennial. 30-90 cms height, 1 metre width. Full sun to part shade Flowers in the spring, summer and autumn. Flowers are pale pink and double. They are held in clusters and are produced en masse. Prune back after flowering to encourage a second flowering and promote new growth. The leaves and the roots contain a high amount of saponin and can be used to make soap. The soap made from them is quite delicate and especially good used for delicate fabrics. Grows well in most moist soil types. Soapwort is a fast spreading ground cover. Will grow in coastal gardens.
