Sium sisarum - Perennial root vegetable. Full sun to part shade. Roots 15-20 cms long. Plant 1 metre height, 40 cms width. A very cold resistant vegetable. Roots can be cooked in various ways, and can be used as you would carrots or parsnips. Roots can also be roasted and used as a coffee substitute. Leaves, stems and seeds are all also edible. Frost hardy. Prefers a moist soil, but not in an area where water pools. Will grow in most soil types, but does best in a rich soil.
