Cochlearia officinalis - A medicinal and edible herb, which contains high levels of vitamin C. 30-50 cms height. Full sun to part shade. Frost hardy. I am not sure if this plant is biennial or perennial, different sources say different things. As I have not been growing it long enough I am unable to say which it is. Scurvy Grass grows well in coastal gardens. Pretty green heart or kidney shaped leaves. This plant was once used to combat scurvy on long sea voyages. Will grow in most moist soil types, including saline ones. The leaves are edible, but have a strong flavour. Used medicinally internally and externally. Scurvy Grass is enjoyed by grazing animals, being also of medicinal value for them.
