Satureja montana - Hardy perennial. Full sun to part shade, but does best in full sun. 40 cms height, 30 cms width. White or pink flowers in summer. Aromatic foliage. Evergreen in warmer areas, but herbaceous in cold winter areas. Well drained soil, will also grow in poor stony soils. Edible leaves used as a flavouring with other foods, especially mushrooms, beans and white sauces. Leaves can be eaten raw or cooked. Leaves can also be used fresh or dried to make a tea. Also a medicinal herb. A good companion plant for beans, onions and roses. Frost hardy. A good bee plant.
