Satureja thymbra - Evergreen perennial shrub. Full sun. 40 cms height, 45 cms width. Medicinal herb, used since ancient times. Also used to preserve foods, as it has anti bacterial abilities. Culinary herb, with a thyme like flavour, and used in a variety of dishes. Savory of Crete has pink flowers and aromatic foliage. Flowering from spring to summer. Requires a well drained soil and doesn’t like soils that remain damp constantly. Leaves and young shots used to make a tea. A strong infusion of this plant is used to clean wine barrels. Grows naturally around the Mediterranean basin, but especially in Crete. An excellent honey producing plant.
