Salvia elegans ‘Honey Melon’ - Perennial. Full sun to part shade, does appreciate some afternoon 90 cms height, 100cms width. shade in areas with hot summers. Aromatic plant, with a sweet smell. A very ornamental plant, with a long flowering period, over spring, summer and autumn. Flowers attractive to bees, butterflies and birds, it is an excellent nectar source for them. Flowers are also a beautiful red colour. Clump forming growth habit. Also a medicinal plant, used in traditional Mexican medicine. A tea is also made from the leaves. The flowers are also edible. Prefers a well drained, rich soil. Will die back in cold winter areas, but should grow back in the spring, mulch well to protect from extreme cold. Will grow in coastal gardens.
