Phaseolus coccineus - A perennial edible and ornamental bean, that has been cultivated for hundreds of years. Fast growing and produces good crop yields. As it’s name suggests the Scarlet Emperor Runner Bean produces beautiful red flowers in profusion throughout summer. Frost tender, so give some protection in frost prone areas. Produces long, flat green pods. They are best eaten cooked and can also be dried or frozen for later use. Full sun to part shade. Prefers a well drained soil, rich in organic matter. Provide a trellis for growing onto, but no need to tie on as these plants will self twine.
