Phaseolus coccineus - A perennial bean with a variety of great attributes. Produces a good crop of edible beans that can be eaten fresh or dried for later use, that have gtreat flavour. Also very ornamental with red and white flowers, sometimes flowers can be pink/ white. Even the dried beans look lovely, they are mocha and tan speckled. This variety is more heat resistant than other runner bean varieties. In hot areas it is happier with afternoon shade. Painted lady has a long history of cultivation. Does best with constant moisture during the growing season, in a well drained soil. Winter dormant.
