Plantago major 'Rubrifolia' - Hardy herbaceous perennial. 15-30cms height, 25-35cms width. Full sun to part shade. Spikes of small green flowers in spring and summer. Ornamental red leaves, colour improves in the autumn. Medicinal plant. Edible leaves, also used to make a tea. High in calcium, and vitamins A, C and K. Leaves can be eaten raw or cooked. Grows in most moist, well drained soil types. Poultry love eating the seeds, goats and sheep will graze the foliage. Medicinal plant for animals.
