Origanum vulgare - Herbaceous perennial. 20-80 cms height. Flowers from summer to autumn. Full sun to part shade. Culinary herb, used in Greek and Italian dishes. Can be used fresh or dried. Also used medicinally. The whole plant has a great aroma. Grows in most well drained soil types. Prefers a more dry soil, but will still need some water, especially in dry weather. Frost hardy. Flowers attractive to bees and butterflies. A useful ground cover plant. A good companion plant as it improves the flavour of nearby plants. Will grow well in pots.
