Chasmanthium latifolium - A hardy species of grass from North America and Mexico. It is happiest in part to full shade. Northern Wood oats is a clump forming perennial. Threatened species in some of it’s natural habitats. Large drooping oat like seed heads held above the foliage from summer through autumn, they look really ornamental and are also edible. The seeds are wild harvested and used cooked or ground into flour to make a variety of dishes. The seeds change colour as they ripen. Prefers moist soils. Leaves are grazed by animals and birds use the plants as nesting material.
