Tropaeolum majus - Perennial plant. Prefers well drained soil in full sun to part shade. Leaves and flowers edible, a good source of vitamin C and iron. Also a medicinal plant. Climbing or ground covering growth habit. Flowers very attractive and can be a range of colours, including red, yellow, orange and cream. Flowers over a long period from spring through to autumn. The whole plant is edible for animals, and is also medicinal and tonic for them. Also fed to animals as a vermifuge, especially the seeds. The seeds are especially good for poultry. A good companion plant, it repels whitefly, aphids, whilst attracting beneficial insects to the garden. An especially good companion plant for vegetables.
