Verbascum thapsus - A hardy perennial herb. Full sun to part shade. Five petalled flowers held on tall spikes. Grey green leaves covered in down. The dried down of the leaves were once used to make candle wicks. A medicinal herb, used internally and externally. A tea is made from the leaves and flowers. A yellow dye is made from the flowers, and has been used since at least ancient Roman times. A medicinal plant for animals also. An attractive plant too many beneficial insects. Grows in most, well drained soil types. A frost hardy plant.
