Mentha arvensis var. Piperascens - Hardy, herbaceous perennial. 50 cms height, 1 metre width. Full sun to part shade. Grows in most soil types, provided it’s kept moist. Its natural habitat is in wet or damp areas, like next to streams and rivers. Purple lilac flowers in the summer. Flowers attract bees and butterflies to the garden. When the leaves are crushed they release a strong minty, menthol scent. Used medicinally. Frost hardy. A tea is made from the fresh or dried leaves.
