Melilotus officinalis - Herbaceous perennial. Full sun to part shade. 1.2 metres height, 75 cms width Stalks of small yellow flowers in the spring and summer. The flowers are an excellent nectar source for bees and lead to high honey yields. The whole plant has the aroma of freshly cut hay. An excellent tonic herb for farm animals, also helps to increase milk yields. An excellent fodder and medicinal plant for grazing animals. But not to be fed if mouldy. Frost hardy. The dried leaves are insect repellent and can be used to protect clothing. A good green manure plant, that fixes nitrogen in the soil and provides organic matter.
