Lythrum salicaria - Hardy herbaceous perennial. Full sun. 1-1.5 metres height, 1-1.5 metres width. Pink purple flowers held on spikes, produced en masse in summer and autumn. Flowers are suitable for cutting. Leaves turn red in autumn. Both a medicinal and ornamental herb. Attractive to bees and butterflies, the flowers providing a rich nectar source. Grows best in damp to wet areas, in most soil types. A good plant for a bog garden or pond also. Prune back during winter dormancy.
