Sanguisorba officinalis - Clump forming herbaceous perennial herb. Full sun to part shade, with afternoon shade preferable in hot summer areas. 80 cms height, 50 cms width. Has pretty maron red flowers in summer and autumn. A medicinal herb, used internally and internally. Greater Burnet is also used in traditional Chinese medicine and has a long history of medicinal use in Europe. Prefers a moist but well drained soil that does not dry out. Also suitable as a bog garden plant. Frost hardy. Young leaves edible raw or cooked, with a cucumber like flavour. Leaves can also be used fresh or dried to make a tea. Can be used as a fodder herb for animals.
