Sambucus nigra ‘’Guincho Purple’ - Hardy deciduous shrub. 2-3 metres height. Full sun to part shade. White flowers with a pink tinge, held in large clusters. Flowers followed by large bunches of black berries in the summer. The flowers and fruits are attractive to bees, butterflies and birds. Grows in most soils. Prefers to be kept moist. Attractive purple leaved cultivar of the black elderberry. Great fast growing attractive plants, good for a fast growing privacy screen. We use elders here as fast growing shade in our animal pens. Will grow on pond edges and in wetter areas. Berries are edible, but must be cooked, not to be eaten raw. Frost hardy. Will tolerate hard pruning if you need to keep it smaller.
