Barbarea verna - Perennial/ bienniall vegetable. 30 cms height, 35 cms width. Full sun to shade, but plants do appreciate some afternoon shade in real hot weather. Frost hardy. Grows in most moist well drained soils, but does best in nutrient rich soils. Leaves eaten raw or cooked. If given some protection over winter, land cress will provide a supply of leaves all year round. Cultivated as a leaf vegetable in England since the 17th century. Use as a substitute for water cress, as land cress has a similar flavour to water cress. An easy to grow vegetable, which is a great cut and come again crop. Grows well in pots or containers.
