Nepeta cataria - Herbaceous perennial herb. 80 cms height, 50 cms width. Frost hardy. Will grow in most well drained soils. Leaves are edible, consumed raw or cooked. They are also used fresh or dried to make an herbal tea. Catnip is also used medicinally both internally and externally. It can also be used as an insect repellent, which also makes catnip a good companion plant as it can help repel insects from othe more vulnerable plants. An easily grown, hardy plant. The scent of the catnip is said to be irresistible to cats, some love to roll in it. The flowers are much loved by bees and butterflies, and are produced from spring until autumn.
