Alternanthera sissoo - Evergreen perennial vegetable, grown for its edible leaves. A long history of cultivation in Brazil as a food crop. Cook leaves as you would common spinach. A great cut and come again crop, as frequent harvesting stimulates new growth and increased yields. A fast growing plant with attractive glossy green, crinkly leaves. Best in part to full shade, with well drained but moist, rich soil.30 cms height by 40 cms width. Growth is as a dense groundcover and weed excluding. A good low maintenance plant. Not frost hardy, best moved to a warm spot or a greenhouse in really cold winter areas. Brazilian Spinach also grows well in pots, making it a good, productive plant for smaller gardens.
