Monarda didyma - Hardy herbaceous perennial. 1 metre height. Clump forming growth habit. Full sun to part shade. Aromatic herb. Used medicinally, especially by Native Americans. Stunning red flowers from summer through to autumn. Flowers very attractive to bees and butterflies. The flowers make good cut flowers and can also be dried retaining their colour when dried. Prefers a humus rich moist well drained soil. Leaves used to make a tea, or added to tea leaves to enhance flavour. Prune to the ground in winter, plant will regrow in the spring.
