Cynara scolymus - Perennial vegetable, producing tender purple artichokes, instead of green. A great ornamental plant also, with large silver/ grey leaves and if the buds are left to open they have large beautiful lavender coloured flowers. Artichokes also have traditional medicinal uses. A great plant for both the kitchen and ornamental garden.
