Rumex scutatus - Hardy, clump forming perennial. 60cms height, 60cms width. Full sun to part shade. Flowers spikes in summer. Edible herb with a lemony, tangy, slightly bitter flavour. Less bitter flavour than other sorrels. Best to consume younger leaves. Can be eaten raw or cooked. Rich in vitamins A, C iron and fibre. Contains oxalic acid and best not consumed in large amounts. Tolerates frost. Grows in most well drained moist soil types. Once established can tolerate some dry spells. Eaten by all animals, both leaves and the seeds. Leaves also used medicinally for animals
