Plantago maritima - A hardy, herbaceous perennial. 10-30 cms height. Full sun to part shade. Leaves edible raw or cooked. One of the better tasting of all the plantains, having a pleasant taste and lower in fibres. Seeds also edible and can also be ground into flour. As the plant name suggests it will grow well in coastal gardens, also inland ones. Frost hardy. Also a good animal fodder plant, enjoyed by grazing animals. Will grow in most soil types, including saline ones. Also a medicinal plant.
