Bunium bulbocastanum - Perennial. Full sun to part shade. 65 cms height, 30 cms width. A very rare and unusual edible and ornamental plant. The whole plant is edible, including the tuber like roots. The roots can be eaten raw or cooked and taste of chestnuts. The foliage can be used as you would parsley, and can be eaten raw or cooked. The fruits can be dried and used as a spice in cooking. The seeds are also used as a rare and valuable spice in cookery. The flowers are also edible Frost hardy. Will grow in most soil types. Pretty white flowers held in umbels. Will grow in coastal gardens.
