Melissa officinalis 'Aureus' - Hardy, herbaceous perennial. Full sun to part shade. Has the same properties as lemon balm. The sunlight improves the yellow colouring of the leaves. I have mine in a position with morning sun and afternoon shade. Lemon scented and flavoured foliage. Leaves edible and used to make a medicinal tea. Small white or yellow flowers in the summer. Prefers a rich, well drained moist soil. A medicinal herb. Prune in the growing season to maintain vigour and bushiness. Not herbaceous in areas with mild winters. Bees find the scent of the leaves very attractive. My grandfather would rub the inside of new beehives with lemon balm to attract bees to move in. A medicinal and edible plant for animals.
