Angelica archangelica - Biennial. 80-130 cms height. Best in a partially shaded position, especially needing shade in the hottest part of the day. Frost hardy. Stems, stalks, leaves, flowers and roots edible. Stems candied and used in desert cookery. The fruits of the angelica are used in the production of absinthe. Medicinal plant. The flowers are greenish white and are produced in summer. Flowers very attractive to bees and other pollinating insects. Moist to damp, well drained soil. Mulch angelica well, to keep roots cool and retain moisture. The whole plant is aromatic, even the roots. Grows as a basal clump of large green leaves on stalks. Angelica is also medicinal plant for animals, being both a tonic and fertility aid for them.
