Helianthus maximilianii - Perennial herb and edible plant. 1-2 metres height. Full sun preferred. Edible seeds and tubers. Tubers can be eaten raw or cooked. Frost hardy. Very attractive, ornamental large bright yellow flowers, also suitable for cutting. Flowers produced in summer and autumn. Prefers a moist well drained soil, and will grow well in most soil types. Drought tolerant once established. Attractive to bees, butterflies and birds. A low maintenance, hardy plant. The plant can be grazed by livestock, and the seed heads are good for birds and poultry.
